i posed this question to my dear friend george:
v: so...i've been listening to a lot of m ward lately. a lot. does that make me gay?
g: [no response]
hmm.

this is real
this morning i saw a van parked on my street with the shittiest, graffiti painted sign on it. it read, "HOOD ESTATE" only the way it was painted it looked like lood estete. don't ask. unfortunately, i didn't have a camera to snap a pic.
thinking of it later today, i decided to do a quick google search on the subject. lo' and behold...

no fucking joke. the best part though,

apparently, this book moisturizes.

green thumb
on saturday, i bought a push cart from the salvation army for five dollars. push carts are awesome. they are my favorite thing in the world right now. they allow for walking long distances with a ton of shit without having to worry how you would carry a single item. they are my best friend. mine is white with a black rubber hand thingy. i call her bessie.
having my push cart really motivated me to do things i otherwise could not dream of in brooklyn (things like buying groceries in bulk, doing more than one load of laundry, picking up random furniture off the side of the street, etc). so on saturday afternoon i stepped out into the sun, bessie in tow, and walked northeast to the home depot in lovely bed stuy.
see, i've been wanting to get some plants for the apartment from the day i moved in, but it has been so hard since there is no train that goes directly to the home depot, nor is it a short walk (15 blocks or so) if you've got heavy things to carry. my push cart, however, turned my dilemma into a breeze.
once at HD, i loaded up on potting soil, planters, herb seeds and flower bulbs along with an impulse buy in the form of a shrub. bessie handled it like a champ. we trekked back down bedford ave and got quite a few comments from random neighborhood hoodlums. many offered to push bessie for me, but our bond was too strong for me to give her up.
i planted everything on sunday morning and will keep you updated as days go by.
here's what you should expect to see:
basil, cilantro, and baby onions

blueberry shrub

lilies

the herbs should come first. lilies second. the blueberry shrub i can't expect much from, but if it has a single flower in the year i will be happy.

all moved in
only nothing is set up.
mikey and i joined forces at the beginning of april. our new place is large even by brooklyn standards, boasting of a living room, large kitchen, art area and dining room to go along with our huge back yard and firepit. we're really looking forward to furnishing it. having a ton of books, magazines, random art pieces and comic books the place looks plenty lived in, but if you're a visitor you'd hardly feel comfortable. this weekend, we're going sofa shopping. super exciting.
what's nice is that we're only a few blocks from araby and jade, so it actually feels like a neighborhood. i think i enjoy that the most.

notes on the month of april, so far
last year, on april 1st, i called my bff randy and exclaimed: "i am moving to ny, tomorrow!"
he was on tour in bumfuck somewhere and was stunned. the story was somewhat believable, i had been getting job offers from all sorts of places in the US, so he lost his shit and simply said, "no fucking way... man, i'm gonna miss you." we talked about what i would do with my house, dog etc for a few minutes and then hung up. ten minutes later i called him to ask what date it was. he said "tuesday" at which point i clarified, "DATE not DAY". "oh, DATE..." randy seemed perplexed, "it's april first. why?"
needless to say, i was simply fucking with him. a year later i've come to realize one thing - karma is a bitch.
