bad luck
i haven't kept in touch with many people over the past week or so, and i swear it's not because i am a poor friend. i've just run into some bad luck. and while you probably could give a shit about the said bad luck, i will throw it at you anyway, here for the world to see.
bad luck example number one
not the thing to end all life, but my lovely digital camera broke down and died on me a week before i left town. this means no pictures of friends, of the new city, the trip out. it means no memories people, as i am super forgetful. and it also means you don't get to see my new office, my hood block or the amount of dog shit spread out on sidewalks all over brooklyn.
bad luck example number two
right after saying good bye to jordon on sunday, i boarded the train home. two songs into my commute, the music suddenly stopped. "weird," i thought, "i swear i charged my ipod all night last night." so i get home plug it in and...nothing. no response. not a sound, not a light, nothing. for the second time in a year my ipod has full on died on me. while in mpls this would not be a life or death situation, in ny i am starting to feel like it is.
bad luck example number three, the BIG one
some of you may know i had a plumbing problem at home. the kind where they dig up your whole driveway, replace a pipe, and then leave the crushed concrete in a pile where the driveway used to be along with a $2,500 bill. another $2,500 and i get my driveway back again. this happened two days before i left town, and while my insurance company came out to look at it and explained they would likely cover most of it, yesterday i got the news that they will not be doing so at all. so, if anyone's got five g's to spare, let me know.
bad luck example number four
remember how only yesterday i said that all but three buildings on my block were boarded up? well, make that two since as of last night a construction crew came in and tore one down. don't let this frighten you away from visiting though. the neighborhood itself is super cute and safe, it's just that if anything ever happened in it, chances are it would happen on my block.
i still don't have internet at home, since in brooklyn, that shit takes a lifetime to connect.
on a lighter note, i met some nice bike people and biked around some. my upstairs neighbor has a pit bull named blue and she is super adorable. it also makes things easier in the building, since we all have dogs. my work people are alright (no one could ever compare to you guys though, promise) and we have a pretty classy cafeteria that's super cheap. we also get free passes to museums and a times square discount card, so holler if you're in town doing touristy stuff, i'll hook you up.

brooklyn
here are a few things you may want to know:
1. i found a place. it's in clinton hill and my block is a bit hood, but it's a start and i am not homeless.
2. i have no idea what i am doing at my new job. all the orientation classes have me disoriented.
3. bullet is somewhat handling the change. only somewhat, and only sometime.
4. i am somewhat handling the change. only somewhat, and only sometime.
5. here planners have something to do with money and budgets, super lame. i think i'm senior enough to get out of it though.
6. i rode my bike around the other day - not bad. i also found a nice bike shop a couple of miles away. owner was super nice and is hooking it up.
7. did i mention my block is hood? well, it is. there are only three buildings on the whole block that are not boarded up. strangely enough though, all the other blocks around me are pretty nice.
8. my subway ride/walk mix comes to 45min.
9. i miss you.
10. come visit me. for being in the hood, my apartment is pretty fucking big.

there'll be time enough for counting, when the dealing is done
moving means no sleep. and not in the "no sleep till brooklyn" the beasties used to talk about.
while i have been to new york at least a half dozen times and know my way around fairly well, i keep having dreams of getting lost on the subway. the types of dreams you wake up in a sweat from. jordon says this is less my fear of getting around in a new city, and more so my fear of having not made the right decision. could it be true? have i gotten lost in my impatience and instability and lost track of what i really want?
i don't know. it's possible.
whether i fucked myself over or not, the fact is i am moving in one week, two days. i'm packed up. the reservations have been made. life keeps going. i hope that in the next year i figure out what the right path for me may be, and living in brooklyn can help weigh out the difference. maybe i will, as my dear friend aaron insists, be back almost instantly. or maybe, like mary has said over and over, i won't be back at all.
life's a gamble. thankfully, i enjoy gambling a serious amount. being on the verge of losing everything or gaining that much more is a risk i am happy to take.
so i'm all in. shirt, shoes and everything.

homelessness is a serious problem in america
and i am gonna be pissed if i get to experience it firsthand.

i don't write a lot
because you'd get bored.
frequency, versus longevity, is my mission for 2008.
what does this mean, exactly? it means instead of coming to visit once for 10 days, i'll make 5 2-day visits. i'd give another example but you get where i'm going with this.
last year in december i wrote about how not much has changed. this year in december (or is that now last year?) i realized how much has changed. here's a list for you...
i made nice with a nice man and now he is my
manfriend and we get along perfectly
bullet went on and got locked up in doggie jail
and i took animal control to court and won but
ended up broke for it
i furnished my house in just enough time to now
start moving the furniture out (i'm a landrover now)
i got a new job and am leaving minneapolis
my hair sort of grew on me and is longer now, and brown
my gambling increased tenfold, playing as high as
2$/peg and 20$/game for cribbage. i am generally up
right now, i am super stressed.

a day to remember
following a four month disappearance, i have brought back aaron's "planet earth" to work today in hopes of finally returning the dvd set to the rightful owner.
i should never, ever, be allowed to borrow anything else.
